Discover the iPod Audio Books Winning Combination!
This page last updated:
Audio books are easily obtainable both on CDs and as internet digital downloads. Loading these audiobooks into our iPod and MP3 players is the easiest and most convenient way of listening to them.
Audiobooks purchased from the iTunes music stores or the audibles.com website are created for iPod listeners, and are easy to play and manage on an iPod.
Note: Downloaded Audio Books from audible are exclusively compatible with audiobook iPods.
Audiobooks on CDs however, are not sold in an exclusive iPod playable format, and it takes a little effort to store and get the best from them for your iPod. Thus, getting audiobooks for iPods from online stores is the best option for people who want iPod compatible books.
But what about all the audiobook CDs that you already own? Help is now at hand, and given below is a concise method of creating iPod friendly audiobooks from your CDs using a Windows computer.
First, you need to import your audiobooks into your iPod. Using the iTunes software, go to Edit->Preferences->Importing->Import Using->AAC Encoding. Import the Audiobook using 64kbps AAC Encoding, since this will save space on your iPod. Audible.com and iTunes audiobooks are available in this same format.
Secondly, you will need to join all the tracks on your CDs in order to make your audiobook bookmark-able. Most audiobook CDs contain a large number of files, which you will need to join into a single track. To do this, Open the CD-> Select all files->Advanced->Join CD Tracks. Once you have a single audio file from your CD, you can then import it to your iPod as described earlier.
Thirdly, in order to make your files bookmark-able, you will have to convert the file into an .aa or an .m4b file. Right click on your file->Show Song File->Change extension from .m4a to .m4b. After having carried out these simple steps, you just have to sit back and enjoy audiobooks on your iPod.
